- Suggest ways to distribute environmental knowledge to the public in a voluntarily cheap method.. Send me notes by email to active.x[at]gmx.net
- Take a moment to read about some basic steps you can take in your life, scroll down to see them..
- Put useful environmental notes in your email signature, so recipients can be reminded every time you send them email.
- Change these notes every while and again so people won't get used to them..
- Each year in the U.S. alone, the "postal" bulk mail industry consumes over 450 million trees just to make the paper used in sending their advertisements and promotions. Using email instead can significantly reduce this consumption, while at the same time decreasing the billions of tons of paper waste filling our landfills.
Save the trees, save the planet, use email!
These are some basic things you can do to help saving the environment:
Lessen your wastes:
- Don't use too many plastic or nylon bags when shopping. Try to put things together to use a less number of bags. It's better to use bags of wool or cottonif they fit your need.
- Buy drinks in glass bottles or in tin cans. Avoid drinks bottled in plastic, this's better for your health as well.
- Buy in large amounts the things you regulary buy, so that you can avoid excess packaging use of plastics for each peace, and you pay less per piece when buying larger quantities.
- Instead of having your food kept in the fridge covered in plastic wrap or silver films, use reusable containers that you can wash and use again.
- Buy eggs in the known carton holders. Avoid the egg sold in plastic bags/holders.
- On picnics and trips, buy and use carton cups and plates instead of plastic ones.
Lessen your water usage:
- Always take a bath under the (sprayer/sprinkler)!. In some arab countries, it's common not to use that, and keeping the tap open all the time causing water to flood while other people really need it.
- Don't leave the water tap open when you don't need it, e.g. while brushing your teeth...
Lessen your electricity usage:
- Use lamps of less power, or use less number of lamps, as much as possible.
- Using the common neon lamps is much more economical than the regular yellow lamp.
- When cooking with electric ovens, turn it off a few minues before the cooking finishes.
- Buy electric equipments that confirm to the ISO standards. The higher the ISO number they confirm to, the better you get. In other words: Brands that confirm to a higher ISO standard have better products in functionality and in environmental aspects.
- Don't forget to turn off the light when leaving the room.
Lessen the climate change:
- If possible, use alternatives to your car. Use the public transport if it can just get you to where you want to go in your car. Or use the bicycle for local areas, and this keeps you healthy as well :) And if the street was crouded with cars, you can reach faster if you go on feet.
- Don't buy fire extinguishers that contain halogens.
- Don't buy spray cans that contain CFC. These cans usually have a globe icon if they were environment-friendly (CFC-free).
- Don't burn the garden's wastes. Take them to the trash, and someone will make a better use of them.
Your car:
- A smaller car is more economic in fuel, and is more easier to drive, and you can have more chances to park it in narrow areas...
- The modern cars come with catalytic converter that reduces the poisonous produced gases. Make sure your car has one.
- Buy a lead-free fuel (maybe this is not applicable in Syria yet)
At the mall:
- Don't buy products of animals or plants in danger of extinction.
- Use phosphate-free detergents.
